I have been in the UAE for almost 13 years now. Unfortunately, I don’t think I have travelled UAE to the extent that I wanted. Recently, we made a visit to Ras Al Khaimah Hilton resort, thanks to a package deal obtained through flydubai. It was for one night and one day, all food and beverages included for a minimum sum. So we decided to enjoy some time in the beach and also some good food.
It was a nice drive, and the highways in UAE are a treat for a passionate driver’s eyes. However, this also results in lot of accidents and serious injuries too. Recently, this has come down significantly thanks to determined efforts by the government and law enforcement agencies. We enjoyed the drive and checked in to the hotel. It was rush hour, and we had to wait quite a while, to get the rooms. But once we got it, it was really nice.
We had a long balcony, and the view was really nice. It felt relaxing to be away from the hustle and bustle of city life, and be in such a laid back place. Though, looking at the rush of tourists in the hotel, it couldn’t be called laid back. We were in the Hilton in Al Marjan island, and it was a nice resort.

We had two spacious suites for the two families. We spent some time relaxing from the after effects of the drive.
It was quite warm and lot of people were already in the water. I am a poor swimmer. Arun is an expert swimmer and he and the kids really made great use of the pool. I made use of the steps and shallow water.
After a dip and bath, we visited the restaurant. It was really a feast. With cuisine ranging from Arabic to Meditteranean to Asian to Iranian and European, it was really awesome. We made great use of the discount we got and had lot of food. We had started early morning, and hence were very hungry as well.
It was normal stuff at the resort. Spend time in the room, go down, walk around the beach. So nothing much to write about. But I wanted to share some nice pictures. Esp at night, the hotel and surrounding places looked very nicely decked up.

The next day after breakfast, we spent more time at the pool. After lunch, we had to return. The return trip was quite an experience. Three camels came across our road, and wouldn’t budge. We had to wait till they decided to move, which was after almost twenty minutes. They were very inquisitive and came near the car. Luckily no damage. We also stopped at a nearby beach to just have a look, since it was different from the tame beach at the resort.

Weekend getaways like this are very common in UAE. After a hectic work week, this is what keeps most people relaxed. There are lot of other attractions like dune bashing, desert safari, archaeological sites etc.
