My Second Home Page

Hello Everyone,

I am actually quite happy to get you all back to this blog. It was live for one month or so, and then you wont believe it, a ransomware malware got in and started demanding bitcoins to release the files. Haha, imagine, asking for ransom for a site which I use just to gloat over my accomplishments!. It was an easy decision to bring down the site.

But it also brought to light the challenges we face in today’s cyberworld. It also made me a bit embarassed, because I didnt have an anti-virus or even a backup scheduled. If I had taken a backup, then I could just have restored it and be back to normal. So, this time, I set up a back up schedule as well.

Setting up wordpress for the second time was very painful. I took almost three hours to set it up, and all because I didnt set up inbound rules in aws security groups. But it took one night of sleep before I realised it. Lesson learnt – sometimes we need to step back to look at the full picture and crack the puzzle.

I focused on gardening. Will cover that in detail. I also got into growing microgreens, which is another form of gardening. Then amazon came with their super sales, and I was very tempted to extend my photographic repertoire. However, the lenses were very expensive and I controlled the urge to splurge.

Nothing gives me more pleasure now than gardening. However, it is only kitchen veggies for now, and I grow them from scratch. So now it’s a waiting game, till the plants decide whether they want to flower or give fruits. It will be worth the wait.

Of course, like most of you, I have a day time job, which is far away from plants and gardens. I work for an airline, and manage its software department. It is an interesting job. Being a small airline, it is very linear in heirarchy, and its easy to see the impact of our decisions and projects very fast, in near-real time.

I am also blessed with a great senior management team and peers and colleagues who drive the department forward. We have build a lot of systems inhouse, including our own Reservation System, Departure Control System, Payment Gateway and Notification Platform to name a few. Running software for an airline is no easy job, and we have to manage from the Flight Operations System to Route Planning System to the Commercial Systems that bring in revenue.

During my career, I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with start ups. I joined a firm called IBS when it was a start up. Had the good luck to implement the reservation system at Virgin America which was a start up. Moved from Emirates to flydubai, when it was a start up. So, yes, its been a great fun-filled and learning intensive career so far.

Other than airlines, my passion is photography. I like travelling far and wide, taking photos mostly of nature. Hence the main purpose of this site was to share some of those photos with you. Photos need to be shared and enjoyed.

So, welcome to the site and hope you enjoy my ramblings.
